Last Letter home

Author: Martyn Richards of Coventry

By producing both letter and play I gained - and hopefully passed to others - a greater insight into the plight of these men and their comrades.

Celtic Cross-Roads

Author: Martyn Richards of Coventry

Commercially, it had been a power for centuries, having successfully rejected a plea for entry by Charles I thanks to its formidable guild-funded town walls.

Determination

Author: Melanie Hart of Coventry

It did not seem to matter how hard we paddled, we could not get nearer to the beach. Our arms were aching and panic was setting in fast. Although we shouted, nobody seemed to hear.

Realising The Pictures

Author: Rev. David R Boulton of Coventry

As if all this were not desperate enough, I had to undergo the further indignity of wearing a dreadful, short, grey, nylon overall jacket that had all the wit, elegance and charming style of a clown's trousers; and being nylon, it generated static.

On And Off The Buses In Less Than A Fortnight...

Author: Graham Daniels of Coventry

The first day at Feltham and I, rather than Ken, was first in the driver's seat. As I slowly released the handbrake, the vehicle crept forward without my touching the accelerator. Diesel filled the air. I turned right out of the garage, left at the lights and was on the open road in London driving a double decker bus.

Sister Joseph, the Irish nun who ran the place, was also a midwife and apart from an initial homily on the virtues of future self-denial, looked after us like the mother we both needed.

Driven To Distraction

Author: Mona Phillips of Coventry

For most learners - and I'm no exception - the most undesirable feature of driving lessons is the presence of that unwilling back-seat passenger, the previous pupil. This poor unfortunate must sit stoically through every gear-crunching, engine stalling moment as whoever's driving tries to get them all somewhere in one piece. Humiliation levels are excruciatingly high.

The Dark Ages

Author: Anne-Marie Bradshaw of Coventry

No electricity at night, meant no television. This meant no more coming home from school and getting bored after tea while my mum and dad sat in front of the box watching The World Of Whicker, Z Cars, Dad's Army, and a whole host of silly television programmes. My mum was almost reduced to tears when she realised that she would miss Doctor in the House. I think she was secretly in lust with Dr Duncan Waring.
