About Derby
The town of Derby became famous for its industry, business, artists and free thinkers
during the Industrial Revolution when innovators, such as Jedediah Strutt and Richard
Arkwright, created their textile empires.
Now as a city, Derby is home to a thriving rail industry and a number of leading
international firms including Crown Derby,
Rolls-Royce and Egg internet bank.
Sport in the area includes Derby County F.C,
one of the founder members of the Football League in 1888, and
Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
